Decathlon Nairobi joins hands with the rest of the world as we fight this Corona Virus battle. As a way of reducing the spread of the virus, governments all over the world are advising their Citizens to stay at home ,but as you stay at home we know you miss the gym, you miss going for those rides or just having good sporting moments with friends. We have written about five easy and budget friendly ideas that will help you stay active, fit and in great shape. These sports will help you bond and interact more with your close family as we continue to pray for a better tomorrow.

  1. Rope skipping

Rope skipping is one of the most affordable, portable and readily accessible ways to get you active at home. More often we think of it as being  for kids. Do you have the same thoughts? Well let us open up the other dimension of rope skipping that you are missing. First, it burns major calories; This aerobic exercise can achieve a “burn rate” of up to 1300 calories per hour of vigorous activity, with about 0.1 calories consumed per jump. Ten minutes of jumping rope can roughly be considered the equivalent of running an eight-minute mile. Secondly, it improves your coordination! brain, hand and feet coordination is improved when you regularly practice rope skipping, the brain is always focused on what your hands and feet are doing even though you are not looking at them! thirdly, it decreases the risk of foot and ankle injuries; those active in sports that require both speed and agility are at risk of foot and ankle injuries; rope skipping is a remedy for this as it helps strengthen the muscles around your feet and also the tendons around your ankle. Furthermore, it also has other advantages like; improved cardiovascular health, improved bone density, improved breathing efficiency and makes you smarter by training your left and right hemispheres of your brain! Rope skipping will put your fitness level in check. What are you waiting for? Grab your rope and just do it!

  1. Yoga

Everyone needs a clear mind during this devastating time, and yoga has it all especially when done in the morning. In this recent times of technology, it is beneficial to enhance flexibility and concentration. The enchantress of an activity like this is that you can do it anywhere to reap the benefits, with just a yoga mat, a yoga pad and yoga block you are on your way to your mental heaven. Regardless of age or fitness level, yoga has the power to calm the mind and strengthen the body!

  1. Table tennis

The moves, the stance, the accuracy, the fun, the class and the feeling in smashing the balls is just pure bliss and fun. Playing improves hand-eye coordination and it stimulates mental alertness, concentration and tactical strategy, Develops mental acuity, Improves reflexes,It’s easy on the joints and burns calories. The strokes and the movement as you go for the ball will also help you with your fitness. It also acts as a social outlet; keeps you connected while maintaining the two meter social distancing😎👍🏿. Table tennis helps you in coordination and keeps your brain alert and sharp. Maybe you are wondering, how am I going to play ‘TT’ without a standard table, well Decathlon has adjustable nets that can be fixed on any table surface, all you got to do is grab those bats and try it out yourself and let the sound of the ball sooth you as you try to find who is the family ping pong champion.

  1. Badminton

Badminton is yet but another sport with lots of benefits that you can practice at home with ease, it only needs two people, two rackets, a net and a shuttlecock! And you are good to go. Benefits associated with badminton include: Helps with general fitness and weight loss, helps in maintaining physique and muscle toning, improves metabolic rate, increases concentration and reflex action, improves heart functioning, improves muscle strength and flexibility and last but not least this sport is a remedy for increased bone density!. Fun and easy game that will unite the whole family.

5. Push-ups

Ever thought of a combination of both muscular strength and muscular endurance at the same time? you are well then i guess you are up to this cracking workout. This calisthenic workout is beneficial for building the upper body strength and endurance. It works the triceps, pectoral muscles, and shoulders. When done with proper form, this workout can also strengthen the lower back and core by pulling in the abdominal muscles. Push-ups are a fast and effective exercise for building strength. They can be done from practically anywhere! Doing push-ups every day can be effective if you’re looking for a consistent exercise routine to follow. You will absolutely notice gains in upper body strength and endurance with no time.

We are all playing in the same team in this fight, lets stick together and we will overcome. Make your stay enjoyable, keep your fitness level in check, record those moments, share and challenge your friends too.
